What iPhones are supported by the latest IOS?

Last week, we wrote a blog about which versions of the Android operating system are supported by different Samsung Galaxy phone and tablet models. This week we are on to Apple.

If you are buying a pre owned iPhone, it’s a good thing to know what operating system (OS) it supports. Check out the table a little further down to see what iOS is supported on the second-hand phone that you are interested in.

If you aren’t familiar with operating systems, here’s a quick overview.

The operating system is the software that runs on your iPhone, and enables it to do what it does – make calls, browse the internet, download and use apps, etc. Apple devices use the Apple developed iOS operating system. Once a year, generally around September, Apple updates its iOS to introduce new features. When they develop a new version of iOS, Apple develops it to support certain devices. In other words, the new version is not supported on all devices.

While a high-end Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet will typically support 2 Android upgrades from the original version that it came manufactured with, Apple provides iOS support for its devices for much longer. The typical iPhone or iPad will be support 6 iOS upgrades. For example, the iPhone 7 was released with iOS 10 and was supported up to iOS 15.

A device will typically be useful for 1 to 2 years after the last iOS upgrade. It is for this reason that here at Unboxxed, we do not sell any iPhones that are no longer supported by the latest iOS. We’re not happy at the prospect of you only getting 1 to 2 years out of the device you buy.
