If you are buying a pre owned Samsung Galaxy or Samsung Galaxy Tab, it’s a good thing to know what operating system (OS) it supports. Check out the table a little further down to see what Android OS is supported on the second-hand phone or tablet that you are interested in.
If you aren’t familiar with operating systems, here’s a quick overview.
The operating system is the software that runs on your phone or tablet, and enables it to do what it does – make calls, browse the internet, download and use apps, etc. Samsung Galaxy devices use the Android operating system which is developed by Google. Roughly once a year, Google updates its Android OS to introduce new features. When they develop a new version of Android, Google develops it to support certain devices. In other words, the new version is not supported on all devices.
Typically, any high-end Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet will support 2 Android upgrades from the original version that it came with when it was manufactured. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S9 was released with Android 8.0 and can be upgraded up to Android 10.0. More recent versions of Android – Android 11.0 and 12.0 – can not be loaded onto a Samsung Galaxy S9. Importantly, this doesn’t meant that a pre owned Samsung Galaxy S9 won’t work. It will work! And it will work well, with all the features that the phone was initially manufactured to offer. It just won’t offer the features associated with the newer operating systems.
With this in mind, here is a view of the latest operating systems that can be downloaded onto different refurbished Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets that Unboxxed may stock. Note: the latest operating system at the time of this blog is Android 12.
