How Much Storage Do You Need on Your Phone?

When it comes to choosing a pre-owned phone, one of the key factors to consider is the amount of storage space it has. In this regard, there are a few things to keep in mind when deciding on the right amount of storage for your needs.

ONE: Price

The more storage a refurbished iPhone or Samsung Galaxy has, the more it will cost. Our recommendation is: don’t get way more storage than you need – it will be a waste of money. Instead, check out the points below and figure out what will be the best for you.

TWO: Check storage used on your current device

The best indication of how much storage you will use is informed by your current device.

As an example, my pre owned iPhone has 128 GB of storage and I am currently using 77.2 GB. This tells me that I have the right phone for my needs.

Phones can come with the following storage available: 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB.

A phone with 16 GB or 32 GB offers very little storage. You will most likely get frustrated by how quickly the storage fills up when you receive repeated messages from your phone that you can’t save another photo because your storage is full.

The most common storage needs will be 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB.

THREE: Where do you store your data?

If you store most of your information in the Cloud, you’ll need less storage.

As an example, most of my data is stored in the Cloud. The only things I save to my phone are apps, some limited media in the form of music and podcasts that I want to listen to on the road, and limited photos. The rest is safely off my device. This means that I don’t have big storage needs – 128 GB has me well covered.

If you prefer to save all your data to your device, then you’ll need more storage and you’ll probably want to look at 128 GB and upwards – depending on how much data you wish to store on your device.

*** As a sidenote: it is a bad idea to store all your data on your used Samsung Galaxy or iPhone. If your device is lost, stolen, or damaged, say goodbye to everything. If, however, you save to the Cloud then your information will be safe no matter what happens to your device.

FOUR: Are you a data junkie?

Some refurbished phone owners are HEAVY data users. They download and use lots of apps; they keep lots of music, podcasts, photos, videos and other media on their device; and they like to download series and movies on to their phones.

If this is you, then go for a second-hand iPhone or Samsung Galaxy with 256 GB of storage or more.

Very occasionally, a phone will come with 1 TB of storage. This is a huge amount and in our view is really not necessary, except in very unusual circumstances.

Ultimately, the amount of storage you need on your preowned phone will depend on your personal usage habits and preferences. By considering these factors, you can find a phone that fits your needs and budget. Happy shopping!
